Light Drop

Click on the image to make it larger.

The Light Drop is supposed to make people think about how we are

dealing with our natural resources, in this particular case, the water,
which is the main source of energy for every living organism in this
fantastic world. Water is energy indeed.

This wall-mounted lighting element illuminates the custom-molded polycarbonate bulb with an embedded, dimmable LED in the faucet, which is intuitively controlled by the tap -- the more you twist, the more light you get -- which also is a good way to contextualize energy use (though at a greatly reduced rate, compared to an incandescent version of the same design.

This design won the Third Prize in the Bright LED international design competition, by design boom.

It´s currently being sold and produced by Wever & Ducre, with the help from my great partners and friends from the fabulous Studio Mango!

SENSACIONAL!

No offense but water is not a form of energy. Water is a medium. It is a substance used for maintaining proper life functions, but it does not supply energy. Get your science right before you make comments like that.

P.S. The lights are still a cool concept though.

Rafael Morgan said...

Is the word energy only about science? Does science already accepted that that might be hidden properties in some materials? Anyway, you should check out the acclaimed studies of Wilhelm Reich about water and it´s energetic properties! Thanks for the feedback!
Rafael.

Ok I agree that water depending on what is done with it can be used to create energy. Such as transferring kinetic energy of running water. Or extracting hydrogen and converting to thermal energy. But what caught me was the part where you said that water is an energy source to all life forms. Yes water is necessary to support life functions such as thermal regulation and the transport of energy supplying nutrients. But as i stand, the water itself is not an energy source.

Hi Rafael - Great idea, only, if the design is supposed to promote clean energy, shouldn't also, the bulbs used for it? Consider florescent bulbs for this in order to take from any hypocrisy in the design.

Rafael Morgan said...

The bulbs are made of glass, instead of polycarbonate, which was the first idea. It´s illuminated with LED, which are the most economic kind of lamps nowadays.

Rafael, my boyfriend and I saw your Light Drops online, and we are purchasing two for our home from a retailer in South Carolina next month when we have enough money. We are so excited to promote your work and will make sure to let everyone know you were the designer. Thanks for making these! We appreciate good design and fine artists.
